Dot to dot treatment

Treatment – Dot to dot productions

A cartoon cat (Whiskers) has moved to a new house and school, he must adapt to deal with not knowing anybody and being bullied by Wilfred. There will be ten 20 minute episodes. By the end of the 10th episode Whiskers and Wilfred will be friends, this is because their teacher (Mr. Hoot) forces them to work together on a group project and through this they learn that they have similar interests despite Whiskers being smart but poor and Wilfred being stupid and rich. The characters will be cartoon characters drawn on a computer and the background will be a combination of paper, cardboard and plasticine.

We will be making the opening sequence of the series. It would be broadcast on the CBBC, this is because their main audience is 6 to 11 year olds (like the brief is asking for). The transitions in-between shows on the CBBC are a combination of cartoons and real life. Similarly, “Whiskers & Wilfred” will use a combination of cartoon and real-life objects.
Dot to dot productions have made 4 TV shows that are within the age range in the brief. These shows are; “Art ninja”, “Totally rubbish”, “Undercover dads” and “The yuk show”. The shows are generally 30 minutes long and are mostly educational but ‘fun.’ Two of them are artistic shows, one is a comedy and the other is ‘gross.’ 3 of the 4 shows were broadcast on the CBBC and the other one was CITV. That is one of the reasons why we chose the CBBC, with another one being that they appeal to the right age range.

Audience research:
This show will appeal to the mainstream 6-11 audience. They will be the audience who watch for diversion as the show isn’t aiming to teach them anything other than accepting people who they wouldn’t usually be friends with by learning more things about them. Its main aim is to entertain not teach.
