Umbra Hominis - Client considerations

Following our pitch to the client and the questions that we were asked, it became clear that we needed to update our treatment in order to inform our client on our BFI funding and the age rating that we are aiming for. This includes adding more detail about the reasons why we are aiming for an age rating of 18 and why their funding is important to us. We may not have included enough information on this due to being eager to start the production of the actual product instead of thinking into the strengths and weaknesses of the idea that we chose to produce, and how they could be worked on to turn them all into strengths.

In order to improve the treatment that we will present to the BFI we will need to improve our synopsis and ensure that the storyboard is clear and easy to follow to make it clear how characters will interact and how the story will progress. In doing this we hope to notice key areas that are at risk of being mis-interpreted or mis-understood and ensure that all of our pre-production documents create a cohesive narrative for the story and that our ideas are clear.

While we were happy with the way that the pitch went it made us realise that there are 2 key areas that we will need to improve in order to make sure that they are clear when it comes to sending our documents to the BFI. The areas are as follows; Why the BFI funding is important and why we feel that an age rating is required for our movie.

In order to discuss the why the BFI funding is important we will have to complete research comparing funded films to unfunded films of the same genre and seeing which is more successful. We will also have to complete research into the way that the BBFC assigns age ratings in order to achieve the age rating that we are going for.
