Umbra Hominis - Updated treatment

Title: Umbra Hominis

We chose this title because we liked the idea of having something slightly latin about the character because it is a lesser known language and would not be understood unless extra research is done into the character.

Log Line: A young boy confused and abused by his own mind is taunted into insanity.

We changed the log line from being different from the tag line as we thought of something more mysterious and deep to put as the log line.

Tag Line: The real evil is within

(see above)

Synopsis

Is the Umbra Hominis a figment of his imagination or the real incarnation of what man can become? Tom Jefferson suffers from psychosis, after running out of pills a strange feeling turns into a sickness that can't be cured. Not helped by his love of the horror genre his Psychosis escalates until he reaches the point that things seen on screen come to life and taunt him. It all starts one morning when in his English class Tom starts to see that the windows are going in and out of focus. Not thinking much of it he continues with his day, but this is only the beginning...

As Tom soon finds out, his psychosis gets worse as the day progresses. This is something that his psychosis pills would normally solve but he hasn't had time to get more and now the effects are getting serious. When walking to his science class Tom encounters what appears to be a strange shadowed figure. At this point in the story he sees this as a clear result of his psychosis and continues further down the corridor until the lights turn off in sequence towards him.

Life with psychosis is hard for Tom. But used to be manageable what he has experienced up until now barely compares to what is to come. With the science lesson underway his psychosis takes a new form with the taps going off in sequence around the room. Nobody else in the room reacts which once again makes it clear to Tom that this is just his psychosis causing him to see things that aren't there. What he fails to realise is that his best friend  Richard has noticed Tom's strange behaviour and reactions to non-existent things;worries about Tom asks him what he has experienced during the day so far these visions. Tom manages to convince Richard that he just needs his pills increasing and continues on to his next lesson, Media. Throughout this lesson Tom is experiencing a range of different things and there is no reasonable explanation to what is happening other than it being all in his head.

Toms encounters with the hallucinations caused by his psychosis are counter-acted with interactions with his friend Richard. Tom's psychosis gradually gets worse until eventually the school day ends and he no longer has people to support him. His friends want to help him, however they are unable to go to his house and help him due to having prior engagements. Once Tom gets home his hallucinations reach their climax and he is no longer able to function at all.
