Umbra Hominis - Content, distribution and marketing methods
The way that we are going to advertise our horror movie is going to be through social media, trailers on YouTube and the use of posters.
By advertising our movie on social media, mainly r/nosleep, we hope to appeal directly to the age range and type of people that our movie is aimed towards. This is because it is mainly 15-30 year olds who are using social media, our targeted age rating is 18 so it falls into the lower end of that age range. By advertising specifically to r/nosleep will will be advertising to people who are hoping to be scared. This is because this sub-reddit is designed to have scary stories on it that are supposed to be believable and scare people. Our advertising on this would be a short part of the story, presented to be real and told from the perspective of the main character. It would aim to create the idea that the things happening would be happening to an actual person with psychosis and then close to the films release we would reveal that it is a movie in the hopes that people who enjoyed it would watch the movie.
Our trailers would be on YouTube because it is a free way of hosting them so that people can watch them. Once again, the first trailer would be in the style of the main character asking for help and then in a later trailer it would be revealed that it is for a movie.
We would have posters in cinemas in the UK and on any accounts linked to the online marketing of the movie. These would be devoid of any information about the movie, the most that they would have is the name of the movie and the tag line. This is so that the story of the movie isn't spoiled but there is enough there to draw people who see it in.
Millions of people use Netflix so by releasing Umbra Hominis on it we will be able to reach a much larger audience than if we were to just release it in cinemas or on DVD/Blu-Ray. Releasing on Netflix is also an easy way of releasing our movie to the world instead of just the UK.
We can also gain revenue from the streaming on Netflix.

Distribution
The distribution for Umbra Hominis will be simple. We will release straight to major streaming services e.g Netflix, Now TV, Amazon Prime. This is because our target demographic make up the bulk of the people who use those services. It's also cheaper than producing any physical copies or paying to have the film shown in any cinemas.Millions of people use Netflix so by releasing Umbra Hominis on it we will be able to reach a much larger audience than if we were to just release it in cinemas or on DVD/Blu-Ray. Justification
We are setting our movie in a school because a lot of psychological horror movies are set in "the real world". This is outside of school and normally when the characters are adults, this links to use subverting the codes and conventions of a psychological horror because people won't be expecting a psychological horror to take place in a school even though it's reasonable for it to happen in a school.
This is also out of the ordinary for all Horror movies because there aren't that many that are actually set in a school.
