Research - Audience research

28 days later The audience for 28 days later were over the age of 18, this is due to the movie having an age rating of 18. It also appeals to zombie and horror fans, this is shown in the posters for the movie as they are mysterious but tell you that there are zombies. The trailers also help to create this sense of intrigue by only listing key days in the 28 days since the virus started to spread.  Psycho Alfred Hitchcock targeted Psycho to the people who already watched his TV series, this is because the film is in black and white, like the series and was filmed in when the show was on hiatus. This would fill the break for the fans of the show while also being cheap to film. Umbra Hominis Umbra Hominis is targeted towards people who love horror movies, this is because the main character watches so many horror films that they cause him to live his own horror film. As a result the film will include horror references. It will also appeal to people who enjoy thought prov...

Umbra Hominis - Treatment

The Title Umbra Hominis The reason we have chosen this title is because it is latin for shadow man which is one of the main things that our character encounters within his psychosis. It also sounds quite intimidating and is a name filled with malice and hatred. Log Line From the depths of his mind Umbra Hominis emerges man or manifestation of his psychosis and fear? Only time will tell... This tag line is effective because it creates a sense of mystery and doesn't reveal too much of the plot. Also it helps to create a good sense of fear because who knows what really lives in the shadows. Tag line Umbra Hominis...From the shadows of imagination This tag line is good because it gives a hint at the entirety of the premise of the plot.It also keeps with the theme of the plot in the way of imagination and shadows. Synopsis Umbra Hominis a figment of his imagination or the real incarnation of what man can become? Tom Jefferson discovers life on the run when suffering from ps...

Research - Promotional materials research

Image
Both posters leave the details of the story for the person to imagine what is going to happen in the movie. This is because these are teaser posters. The following posters give more details away due to being the final posters rather than being the teaser posters. Our promotional materials will be similar. The initial poster will be mysterious and the final one will give away more details. We would also have a website that would be updated randomly to excite the people interested in the movie. Parts of the story would also be posted to Reddit to advertise it as if it is just something that somebody wrote randomly.

Umbra Hominis - Ideas

Less formal planning - Mind maps (with strengths and weaknesses)

Image
Here is our mind map of our ideas for this opening sequence. We have 3 different ideas to choose from. I think that it is likely that we will go with the "Mental health issues cause student to hallucinate" idea due to us being able to make it more realistic and therefore more believable. The idea of the chest being opened and the ghosts being released will mean that we will have to be able to destroy or damage things in the school that we are filming in. This means that we will have to get permission to destroy any displays that are on the walls or spend the time to make some of our own that we can destroy. The making of the displays that we could destroy wouldn't be a problem however we may struggle to make them look believable in the time that we have to film. Our third idea was of the ghosts of the murdered principals haunting the school will be difficult to do. It will either require at least 2 people to be dressed up in costume with makeup or it will require a l...
